A man-made creation of Dr Emile Dorian, Tygrus chose to live an isolated existence on Dorian's abandoned island after the geneticist was arrested by Batman and incarcerated in Arkham Asylum. There he lived in relative peace. However, this was somewhat disturbed by G.C.P.D, forcing him to hide away out of sight.
Encountering the werewolf Anthony Romulus, he reluctantly agreed to track down Dorian, on the condition that the former athlete took him to see Selina Kyle, the woman he had loved and lost.
Witnessing Man-Bat abducting Kyle from her apartment, he gave chase, coming face-to-face with Dorian. Pleading his "father" to release Selina, he reluctantly agreed to transfer his consciousness into Batman's body, hoping that if he were human, Kyle would reciprocate his feelings.
Realising that what he was doing would only alienate any of her affection, and seeing Dorian attacked by the out-of-control Werewolf, Tygrus broke free from the machine and rushed to defend his family. However, the ensuing fight caused a fire that would burn through the entire lab, seemingly engulfing Man-Bat, Dorian, Romulus and Tygrus himself in the blaze.
Due to his genetically modified strength, stamina, and endurance, he might have survived the incident, since Batman was unable to find any of the four combatants' bodies.
