In the immediate aftermath of The Hang Man's - aka Sofia Falcone Gigante - death, Richard "Dick" Grayson assumed the role of Robin, joining forces with his guardian, Bruce Wayne, aka Batman to become a costumed vigilante.
The sobriquet "Robin" was inspired by his mother, Mary Grayson, who often likened her energetic son to the bird of the same name.
Personally trained by Bruce, Wayne hoped to guide Dick away from a path of cynicism and vengeance, similar to the one he had traversed to become Batman.
Together, Batman & Robin formed a formidable team, nicknamed "the Dynamic Duo" by the press and criminals alike. They protected the city for several years until Dick eventually retired from the role and struck out on his own as Nightwing.
